You can also include wall squats in your routine of recovery after spinal surgery. Be sure to lean against the wall with your back. Slowly slide one foot in front. As soon as your feet have moved 12 inches away from the body, you should tighten your abdominal muscles and slowly bend your knees to a 90-degree angle. Stay in the position for at least five seconds. Slowly return to starting position and repeat. In general, you should repeat this exercise 10 times.

Straight leg raisings can be a good spinal surgery recovery technique, particularly after lateral interbody fusion. This exercise is performed by lying flat on your stomach on the floor. (If necessary, use a mat like in the picture above.) While keeping the other leg straight, bend one knee. Stabilize your lower back by tightening your upper- and lower abdominal muscles.

Stretching your hamstrings is also important after spinal procedures such as kyphoplasty or vertebroplasty. Starting by laying flat on your stomach with the legs bent, start lying backward. As you raise your leg, use both hands to pull the foot toward you. Straighten your knee slowly until you feel the hamstrings stretching. Then hold it for at least 20 seconds. Next, repeat this process using the other leg.

In general, aim to do 10-30 minutes of exercise at a stretch, between 1 and 3 times per day. You can use a stationary bicycle or a treadmill to walk on after having lumbar microsurgery. Even though these exercises may appear simple, they are effective in rehabilitative exercises. With a little effort, you can regain maximum mobility between one month and one and a half months. However, it may take a whole year to fully recover.
